Illinois Manufacturers’ Association Statement on Spring 2025 Legislative Session

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA) released the following statement after the General Assembly adjourned the spring 2025 legislative session:

“Economic growth is key to stabilizing the state’s long term financial outlook. When businesses thrive, Illinois thrives. Though we have made progress over the past several years, the collective action taken by the General Assembly this year creates significant barriers for the manufacturing industry, which is the backbone of our state’s economy,” said Mark Denzler, President & CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association. “While we commend new incentives to help small and medium-sized manufacturers build and upgrade their facilities and retain employees, expand  apprenticeship programs crucial to building a skilled workforce, and improve site readiness, those efforts are overshadowed by other measures that will make it more difficult for businesses to invest in Illinois. That includes a last-minute gift to trial lawyers that will expand liability for out-of-state businesses operating in Illinois and make our courts a national magnet for toxic tort litigation, as well as numerous tax hikes that will cost businesses hundreds of millions of dollars a year. More importantly, Illinois lawmakers failed to address the energy crisis caused by rising demand and reduced capacity that has spiked costs for businesses and consumers. Manufacturers need safe, reliable and low-cost energy and we stand ready to work collaboratively on a solution that will make Illinois attractive for investment while protecting ratepayers.”
