Illinois Manufacturers’ Association Opposes Forced Unionization Bill

HB3437 will increase project costs, encourage businesses to invest outside Illinois

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA) released the following statement after the House approved HB3437, which would force the unionization of certain construction employees at refineries, chemical plants and ethanol facilities in Illinois:

“This legislation sets a troubling precedent in which the government can dictate hiring and salary choices to private companies. Government has no place mandating the payment of certain wages for privately financed projects,” said Mark Denzler, president and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association. “Removing a businesses’ ability to make these choices will drive up project costs and sends the wrong message to companies looking to locate or expand in Illinois, especially when we should be encouraging job creation following the widespread disruption caused by the pandemic.”
