Voting Resources

Each year, lawmakers in the Illinois General Assembly introduce more than 10,000 pieces of legislation covering issues ranging from labor and environmental regulations to taxes, health care, and the state budget. As a powerful and respected advocate, the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association serves as the unified voice of manufacturers at the State Capitol, where decisions made by policymakers can have a direct impact on a company’s bottom line.

Every day, the IMA’s experienced team is on the front lines advocating for policies that strengthen Illinois manufacturing, fighting proposals that threaten jobs and economic growth, and ensuring manufacturers have a seat at the table. Recognized by the American Society of Association Executives for excellence in legislative advocacy, the IMA is proud of our record of success and our continued work to boldly move makers forward in Illinois.

Recent Wins

Recently, the IMA successfully championed a new tax credit for capital investments made by manufacturers called Advanced Innovative Manufacturing for Illinois (AIM for Illinois). This new incentive will be 3 % to 7% tax credit of an investment of $10 million or more. We were also able to increase and extend the Apprenticeship Tax Credit that the IMA passed 5 years ago from $3,500 to $5,000 that was scheduled to sunset at the end of 2025.  In previous legislative sessions, IMA has also secured a $45 billion infrastructure program to build and replace Illinois’ aging infrastructure, a new manufacturers’ purchase credit to eliminate sales taxes on consumables used in the manufacturing process, saved employers more than $400 million through the elimination of a 0.3% unemployment insurance tax, and defeated efforts by the Cook County Assessor to shift higher property taxes on commercial and industrial taxpayers.
