The Illinois Commerce Commission has opened a docket to consider stakeholder viewpoints on the Mt. Simon Hub that will help manufacturers meet their decarbonization goals whether required by federal or state rules, or based on individual company’s goals and priorities.
Illinois manufacturers in a variety of sectors – refineries, steel, chemicals, cement, auto, and more – are looking to reduce their carbon footprint which may include capturing and storing it underground in the Illinois Basin which is a geologic shale layer more than a mile deep spanning parts of Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. Carbon can be captures and sent via pipeline – the safest means – to the storage facility.
We need to make sure that the Illinois Commerce Commission does not block the use of this new technology. I’d ask that you consider signing in support of this joint letter.
Thank you.
