The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (U.S. Department of Labor) is proposing a new rule that would allow non-experts into manufacturing facilities and other employers.  Deemed the “worker walkaround process,” an employee could request non-employees participate in inspections which could include union organizers, trial attorneys, or other individuals.

The IMA is strongly opposed to this proposed OSHA rule and submitted our extended comments to OSHA last week.  We will also be submitting a sign-on letter of Illinois manufacturers. If you are interested in adding your company name to the letter, please complete the form below. (We will only include your company name and location on the list we submit to OSHA.)

This proposed rule does nothing to promote workplace safety and has a substantial negative impact on the rights of employers and their employees. By allowing outside union organizers and community activists on a non-union employer’s private property, OSHA is injecting itself into labor-management disputes and casting doubt on its status as a neutral enforcer of the law.

Thank you for your consideration.  There is a very short deadline so please act today!
