Manufacturers Respond to Governor Rauner’s State of the State Address

The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association has released the following statement in response to Governor Rauner’s State of the State Address:

“The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association applauds Governor Rauner for his continued focus on balancing the state’s budget and strengthening the economy to make Illinois competitive again.  We’re pleased that the Governor and all four legislative leaders have expressed a desire to end the budget stalemate and incent job creation.  Last year, nearly 11,000 manufacturing jobs were lost in Illinois decimating families and communities.  Since 2009, Illinois has lost 1,600 manufacturing jobs while Michigan (163,700), Indiana (90,800), Ohio (76,700), and Wisconsin (41,300) added tens of thousands of jobs.  Illinois is a bountiful state with tremendous advantages but government is closing the state one day at a time with burdensome government regulations.  It’s time for both parties to work across the aisle to achieve meaningful reform that will put our state’s fiscal house in order, enact pro-business reforms, strengthen our education and workforce system, and tackle property tax reform that shifts the burden unfairly to commercial and industrial taxpayers.”
