MANUFACTURING IS THE MIDDLE CLASS…
but government is destroying the industrial sector in Illinois. As a result of government policies, Illinois’ middle class is suffering and it’s hurting our families and communities. Some areas of Illinois have lost up to 40 percent of its manufacturing jobs since 1990–many of them to other states due to Illinois’ anti-employer policies.
In the last ten year alone in Illinois, more than 300,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs are gone.
Not ALL job losses can be attributed to jobs simply moving away, but THOUSANDS have done just that…especially to neighboring state that have more stable and predictable economic environments. Clearly, the policies our government has enacted are driving our manufacturers OUT OF STATE.
As Jim Bodman, CEO of Vienna Beef said in an August, 2016 Chicago Tribune article:
“The state of Illinois is just very difficult to deal with because they don’t have any money. We are caught in the position where we as citizens owe so much money to these pensions that I don’t know how we’re ever going to get it paid off. It would be really easy to pack our bags and leave Chicago, leave Illinois. We could go to Wisconsin and become an enormously profitable company.”
